brainCloud Bombers

brainCloud Bombers was my main project at bitHeads during the summer of 2015. It took a little over a month to create, and was made as an open source tutorial for bitHeads’ BaaS brianCloud. I was the Unity developer on the project, and I had the assistance of a 3D artist, a UI artist, and a game designer, to create the game. brainCloud Bombers is an online multiplayer air combat game, where players try to kill each other to earn bombs, and then drop said bombs on the enemy’s ships below. The game uses brainCloud to keep track of players’ accounts and stats, and Photon Unity Networking to control the matchmaking, the multiplayer lobby, and the actual game. I also reworked the game to run on the Unity built-in networking system UNET.

Things learned from brainCloud Bombers:

  • Working with online multiplayer systems is an interesting challenge, and you really need to keep it mind throughout the game creation process.

  • Working at bitHeads was my first professional programming opportunity. It was a lot of fun, and had plenty of interesting challenges. I feel like I learned a lot from my time at bitHeads.

  • As always, getting players to cooperate with testing is difficult when they’re too busy killing each other!
